02 Sep Aidan Clifford’s Retirement Garden Party
On Wednesday, 31st August 2016 we celebrated Aidan’s last day at the CDU with a big retirement party in the beautiful garden of CDETB Psychological Service at Winstead in Dartry.
Over 120 guests enjoyed the evening sunshine and a BBQ. It was lovely to catch up with former colleagues and meeting new people. Speeches by Rory O’Sullivan, Conor Harrison, Stephen McCarthy, Jane O’Hanlon, Miriam O’Donoghue and Kevin McCarthy highlighted Aidan’s achievements over the past decades, an impressive list of projects and initiatives. Of course there was much laughter when the speakers revealed some of the quirkier stories.
Aidan has been the Director of the CDU for over 15 years and has been involved in a diverse range of educational programmes in Ireland and beyond: the role of the Arts and the Humanities in Education, citizenship, development education, social justice, equality; and peace and reconciliation. He has made a huge impact which will continue to influence the educational landscape.
The staff of the CDU will miss him immensely, but we know that he will be active in the field for years to come, so there will always be a cup of tea and a bickie waiting for him in our kitchen.
